Survival Tips to a Cavity-Free Easter

With Easter fast approaching, it can be a challenging time for our teeth with chocolate temptation lurking around every corner – those Easter eggs seem to get stocked up in the shops earlier and earlier every year! Therefore, we have come up with 3 Survival Tips for your teeth to keep them happy and healthy at this time of year – no one wants to have a filling done at the best of times, let alone when we’re surrounded by swarms of chocolate eggs!

  • Choosdentist easter blog cohnee your treats carefully – try to swap milk or white chocolate for dark chocolate as it has less harmful sugar content and try to avoid sticky or chewy sweets as these can get stuck in the pits of your teeth and can cause tooth decay. Perhaps try sugar-free alternatives and then have a drink of water or milk to flush those harmful bacteria off your teeth.
  • Brush your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste – this one is pretty self-explanatory! The fluoride will help protect your teeth against tooth decay. You can also use floss/tepe brushes to get those hard-to-reach areas between your teeth as your toothbrush won’t be able to reach the bacteria in these areas fully! You can even use a fluoride mouthwash however make sure you use this at a different time throughout the day and not straight after brushing – you don’t want to be rinsing your toothpaste off before it’s had a chance to work its magic!
  • Try to save the sweet treats for mealtimes only – Try not to snack on sugary treats throughout the day – you’re exposing your teeth to more acid attacks and putting them at risk of developing tooth decay! So put the chocolate bar down when you’re contemplating an afternoon snack (we all do it!) and try to go for a healthier sugar-free alternative, perhaps even chew on some sugar-free gum. It’s better to have all the chocolate you want after a meal as you’re only putting your teeth through a single acid attack as opposed to multiple. Your teeth are strong but even they need a break sometimes!
