A dental bridge is a replacement for a missing tooth, or multiple teeth, which is fixed in place. Whilst it can be upsetting to lose a tooth it is comforting to know there are some great choices for replacement.
A bridge is made under our guidance by our skilled dental technicians in the dental laboratory and cemented into position with dental adhesives. We generally make use two types of bridge:
A Fixed Bridge is fixed onto two teeth at either side. The teeth are prepared as they would be for a crown so quite a lot of tooth tissue can be removed. This is ideal if these teeth already have large fillings or crowns, if not then the next type of bridge may be preferable.
A Maryland Bridge is a sticky bridge that is bonded to the back of the tooth adjacent to the gap. As such, this is generally a more tooth-conserving option and is more in keeping with our modern approach of Minimally Invasive Dentistry.
Both types of bridges require maintenance from regular cleaning. Regular visits will allow our team of professionals to instruct you about how to keep the bridges clean and healthy.
