Regular dental checks allow issues to be intercepted before they become a problem. We therefore prefer to see our patients at regular intervals for a full oral health assessment. During this assessment we do so much more than just check your teeth. We will examine the gums for signs of gum disease, your teeth for signs of wear-and-tear and decay, and we will also carry out a full mouth cancer screen. If mouth cancer is caught early, like all cancers, it has a better treatment outcome. Some early cancers are hard to spot on self-examination, so for this reason alone it is a good idea to be checked regularly.
We also sometimes require x-rays of your teeth to assess for dental decay in areas not visible on direct examination. In addition, x-rays can be used to identify gum disease and other forms of hidden disease.
If you require any treatment once your check has been carried out, we will discuss options with you including costings of different elements. We will help guide you with your choices and spend time to help you make an informed decision.
